Temptation Tuesday: Ceviche and Other Expensive Raw Animal Meat

I’ve spent the past 10 days visiting family in the 100+degree heat that is August in my hometown, indulging in fried Mexican food and cheap tequila. It’s been heaven but I have to admit, as day 10 hit this morning, I needed something fresh and light to cleanse my gut – and so began my intense craving for ceviche, sushi or any other expensive raw animal meat I could get.

Now usually having to drive 2 hours from my hometown to get to the closest airport is a bitch, but today I was happy to make the drive towards the coast where raw fish is fresher and less sketchy than it is in the desert.

I picked The Fishery, an excellent fish house in Pacific Beach, CA, and gave into temptation with this:

It was as spectacularly fresh and tasty as it looks. So spectacularly fresh and tasty that I almost took a giant batch of it to go home with me before realizing that eating raw fish after a 4-hour flight is how I got worms the last time (only kidding – it was the raw beef), so I passed.

And, even though they’re the most adorable little tasty suckers ever, I also passed on putting a few of these in my purse for the plane home.

Now if I could only find good ceviche in Portland I’d be happy. Oh well, I’ll eagerly settle for Bamboo Sushi for dinner. After all, it is the most sustainable sushi restaurant in the world, so I owe it to planet earth to eat there as often as possible.
