Temptation Tuesday: Chocolate Mochi Donuts from Dunkin' Donuts China

After the chaotic hell that is shopping for groceries in Shanghai, D.E. and I decided to treat ourselves to some all American dessert: Cold Stone Creamery. However, after watching the attendant sneeze large chunks of who-knows-what all over the ice cream, we opted instead to find our comfort at the Dunkin’ Donuts counter instead.

While I was tempted to try the dry pork and seaweed donut, my sweet tooth got the best of me and I instead grabbed two mochi ring donuts, one green tea flavored and one chocolate with chocolate frosting. D.E. grabbed two square shaped jelly-filled donuts, one plain and one “American crunch” toppings – which we think means short bread cracker type cookies stuck to chocolate icing.

The green tea mochi rings tasted like mango, which was strange, and weren’t that great, except when melted, then they weren’t from bad to ok. The jelly filled donuts were delicious – we were pleasantly surprised to find the filling was blueberry – but they were nothing in comparison to the glorious chocolatey goodness that was the chocolate chocolate mochi ring.

Oh sweet gooey chocolate mochi ring temptation, how I love thee. Placed in the microwave for 10 minutes, it became like molten chocolate cake, all sticky and gluten free (mochi products are rice flour) and wonderful. If it was legal, I would marry this donut. But since it is not, I will simply crown it this Tuesday’s Temptation of the Week.

(P.S. D.E. thinks it looks like a turd. I agree, but it’s still tasty.)

Wow! Chinese Dunkin’ Donuts are so cool! My mind is still blown by the dried pork and seaweed donut combination.
