Temptation Tuesday: Kara's Cupcakes – San Francisco, CA

I’m not a big cupcake fan. Sure, I’ll eat the things and usually I’ll enjoy them at the time, but after I always wonder why I wasted my calories and money on that when I’d much rather have had something else.

That is, until I had a salted caramel chocolate cupcake from Kara’s in San Francisco.

These are the cupcakes that my sister and I used to feed our bellies and souls when my brother was getting his cancer treatment. These are the cupcakes I blame for the beginning of my downward unhealthy eating spiral. These are the only cupcakes I ever crave or dream about. These are the cupcakes that all cupcakes long to be – thus their well-deserved title of this week’s Tuesday Temptation.

Salty sweet perfection.

Even more appropriate is that today, while visiting my sister and nieces in San Francisco, I gave in to temptation and purchased 8 Kara cupcakes – 4 being salted chocolate caramel – for my sister and I to take home.

My sister already ate one of hers before I could take a photo.

I lasted eight hours before I gave into temptation and had one and oh my lordy lord was it worth every calorie!

Gooey caramel seeps through the moist chocolate cake with fudge-like frosting.

Taking the top off, I indulged in the caramel interior, savoring every sinfully rich bite.

Caramel interior.

I hate to admit it, but it was so good I actually wasn’t able to finish it and instead gave the rest to my sister, who has a bigger sweet tooth than I do. I’m glad I did – it’s 10pm and I’m up with a sugar high from my one-half alone!
