Temptation Tuesday: Boiled Peanuts

The first time I saw boiled peanuts, I was not impressed. They looked slimy and impossible to eat with the chopsticks I had been given. I thought they were some kind of disgusting fermented bean and was preparing for a bitter taste as I popped one in my mouth, too hungry to bother using my utensils. Surprise immediately filled my senses as I bit down on the smooth, starchy, slightly herbed flavor of what now is my favorite snack and this week’s Tuesday Temptation: boiled peanuts.

Ask for some boiled peanuts as an appetizer from your favorite Chinese food restaurant (I had my first at Wong’s King in Portland, Oregon and my most recent at Din Tai Fung in Shanghai China) or try making some at home.
